he has the surprise of his life when he learns his true identity
Divorced, Mario thought maybe he had found love again on a dating application, relates the DailyMail. The young woman was actually his roommate, Courtney, with whom he lives in London. She presented herself under a false identity: “Hannah, beautiful, kind and compassionate”. Her photos ? A pretty blonde with blue eyes.
After 8 months of virtual conversations, Mario began to have suspicions when he realized that the young woman was canceling all their dates at the last minute. In addition, she refused to talk to him on the phone or send him voice messages. The young man therefore contacted “MTV’s Catfish”, a British program that unmasks identity thieves on social networks.
The hosts of “MTV’s Catfish”, Oobah Butler and Julie Adenuga, realized that “Hannah” was actually called “Sarah”, and lived in New Zealand. A video chat with Sarah confirmed that she had no idea what identity theft was targeting her.
“Don’t they have anything better to do?”
Mario learned the news with some disappointment: “I feel like a fool. What better way to do with their time than waste mine?” The presenters ended up phoning “Hannah” who immediately hung up when they mentioned the name of the show.
In the process, “Hannah” sent a message to Mario: “Catfish just contacted me. If I meet you, you promise I won’t lose you?”. “I don’t even know how to react to this”, replied Mario, before accepting the meeting.
The young man finally found himself facing his roommate Courtney, co-worker, and sexual partner … “I didn’t expect to see you today. I expected everything but that. It’s unreal, it’s too much to take in.”, he confided.
“I am desperately in love with him”
“He’s my best friend and my roommate”, Courtney told the program hosts. “We’ve known each other for almost five years. I wanted to see what it would be like to be his girlfriend, because I’m so desperately in love with him.”, she said.
Mario then explained that he was aware of Courtney’s feelings towards him but that he never wanted to be in a relationship with her. “We slept together and our friendship grew and grew, it made sense to move in together. We started a business together”, Courtney said.
Two months after these events, the show took news of the two roommates: after three weeks without seeing each other, they became friends again and their relationship seems to be in good shape.
